Iris tech to check misuse of ration cards
Putting information technology to maximum use, the Department of Civil Supplies has used the iris Recognition Technology to check fraudulent use of ration cards.
As a pilot project, the technology is used to issue ration cards in the Kapra municipality limits. The project will be extended in all the 23 districts through the municipalities very soon.
The New technology would prevent issue of multiple cards to one family. The irises of the family members will be scanned for their patterns and stored. The data will be used for ascertaining the usage of cards.
A committee comprising officials from the Department of Civil Supplies, Insttute of Electronic Governance, AP Technology Services, Information Technology and Communications Department and related wings has been studying the technology especially for its suitability for ration cards.
The technology was tested yesterday at the municipal office, Kapra. Though it posed some problems in the initial few hours, the technical team made in ready for the project City-based 4G Informatics is providing the technology.
