Life made easier in `wireless’ village
He invested about Rs. 80 lakhs for the e-governance programme to link Chiluvuru village in Guntur district through the Internet. Now, Katragadda Krishna Prasad, the Founder of Global Opportunities Foundation, wants high-speed broadband Internet services to reach all villages. Speaking at the inaugural of the programme, he said the focus was on tele-medicine as remote villages needed expert medical opinion in an emergency for which the GOF brought new technology with the support of the 4G-informatics, Hyderabad. IRIS cameras placed in a hospital stores the patient’s health details in the system, which can be retrieved any time, any place.
Villagers trained
The IRIS security system was also useful for welfare schemes, and ration cards the district Collector, K. Ramakrishna Rao, explained during the videoconference.
The project was evolved with the technical guidance of the State Chief Information Officer, G. Subba Rao, at the IEG. The Acharya Nagarjuna University initiated the Student Knowledge Forum to use the services of the students of M. Sc (IS) of P.B. Siddhartha College of Arts & Science, Vijayawada.
They trained the villagers for two months during summer vacation to help them become computer-literate.
The entire village was covered with `wireless’ and fibre optic connectivity.
Latest gadgets like network cameras, wireless components, and digital cameras were installed in the village. Using the UNICEF’s `Sisu samrakshana’ CD, women and children were trained to clarify their doubts.
A pregnant woman shared her views about the package during the videoconference.
The DWCRA women too were trained on computer assembling, trouble- shooting, Internet browsing etc.
