UIDA official happy with enrollment process
SANGAREDDY: Unique Identity Authority of India (UIDA) Deputy Director-General V.S. Bhaskar on Saturday visited the enrollment stations set up for enrolling residents of Veluru of Wargal mandal in Medak district..
The enrollment is being taken up as part of benchmarking the biometric standards as part of giving unique identification numbers to all Indian residents.
Speaking to media later, Mr. Bhaskar expressed satisfaction over the process of Proof of Concept (PoC). He said PoC is aimed at evaluating the technical, operational and behavioural aspects of enrolling biometrics of the residents. He said that about 30,000 people would be enrolled.
Prelude.
“The PoC exercise is a prelude for the pilot one. About 10 to 30 lakh residents would be given Unique ID cards by enrolling their biometrics in the pilot project that follows the PoC exercise” Bhaskar said..
The UIDAI has chosen Hyderabad-based 4Gid Identity Solutions for evaluating and benchmarking the standards of biometrics, as well as for the whole enrollment exercise..
The key requirement of the Unique ID System is to eliminate duplicate identity in order to improve the efficacy of the service delivery to 1.2 billion residents of the country.
Veluru is one of the eight rural villages selected for the PoC. Enrollment of biometrics would be taken up during the PoC in Narasingi, Ghanpur, Warghal in Medak district and Poranki, Nidamanuru, Ramavarappadu, and Kanuru in Krishna district. Patancheru of Medak district and Vijayawada Urban were identified under urban category.
UIDAI Assistant Director General T. Srinivas, 4Gid Identity Solutions’ vice-president N. Ramachandra Rao were part of the team that visited the stations.
