Unique ID pilot project launched
PORANKI: The library adjacent to the panchayat office of this village near Vijayawada was a hub of activity on Wednesday with curious men and women queuing up outside the single-room structure with four enrollment stations set up by 4G Identity Solutions, a Hyderabad-based company dealing with identity solutions.
Latest gadgets.
Representatives of the company came equipped with latest gadgets like iris cameras, finger print devises, single finger print scanner and a webcam.
Men and women widened their eyes for capture of their iris and moved forward their four fingers before a deviser.
The webcam captured and later cropped a full length photograph..
The process marked the much-awaited commencement of the nation-wide drive by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) to develop and implement the necessary institutional, technical and legal infrastructure to issue unique identity numbers to Indian residents.
The process of collecting biometric information has been launched simultaneously in Krishna and Medak districts as a pilot project. “We will be here till March 17 and intend to set up similar enrollment stations at Kanuru, Nidamanuru, Ramavarappadu and division-9 of Vijayawada Municipal Corporation. By covering 200 to 250 persons every day, we expect to complete the task by April-end by bringing under the drive nearly 25,000 people in the two districts,” said T. Lakshmi, managing director of 4G Identity Solutions.
